Description:

Unlike its huge parent tree, this dwarf is an extremely low mounding and spreading variety that is multi-stemmed and broad; aromatic glossy green foliage make this selection a beautiful accent for the garden or borders

Ornamental Features

Kelly's Prostrate Coast Redwood is a dwarf conifer which is primarily valued in the garden for its broadly spreading habit of growth. It has dark green evergreen foliage. The fragrant sprays of foliage remain dark green throughout the winter.

Landscape Attributes

Kelly's Prostrate Coast Redwood is a multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with a ground-hugging habit of growth. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage.

This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and can be pruned at anytime. It has no significant negative characteristics.

Kelly's Prostrate Coast Redwood is recommended for the following landscape applications;

  • Accent
  • Mass Planting
  • General Garden Use

Planting & Growing

Kelly's Prostrate Coast Redwood will grow to be about 12 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 1 foot from the ground. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live to a ripe old age of 200 years or more; think of this as a heritage shrub for future generations!

This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type, but has a definite preference for acidic soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. This is a selection of a native North American species.
