Ornamental Features

Swamp Rosemallow features bold white star-shaped flowers with shell pink overtones and crimson eyes at the ends of the stems from late spring to early fall. Its large tomentose lobed leaves remain grayish green in color with curious gray undersides throughout the year.

Swamp Rosemallow is an herbaceous evergreen perennial with a rigidly upright and towering form. Its relatively coarse texture can be used to stand it apart from other garden plants with finer foliage.

Swamp Rosemallow will grow to be about 10 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 3 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 1 foot from the water. It grows at a fast rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 5 years. As an evegreen perennial, this plant will typically keep its form and foliage year-round.

This plant does best in full sun to partial shade. It is not particular as to soil type or pH, and is able to handle environmental salt. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. Swamp Rosemallow is a fine choice for the water garden, but it is also a good selection for planting in outdoor pots and containers.
